Site-specific artwork and designed spaces for the southeast quadrant, from International Avenue and Quarry Park to Southcentre and Seton.
Southeast Calgary covers a wide range of places: International Avenue on 17th Avenue SE, the retail and industrial belt along Deerfoot Trail, Southcentre Mall at Macleod Trail and Anderson Road, and newer communities such as Seton at the city’s southeastern edge. KINN Studios is an artist-led experiential design studio based in NE Calgary, and we design murals, installations, activations and interiors across the quadrant.
Whether the brief is a single restaurant wall or an installation for a shopping centre, we work as producer as well as designer: one brief, one schedule and one point of contact from first sketch to finished install, with the artists and fabricators coordinated by us.
The southeast rewards work that fits its scale. On International Avenue, a new wall should add to the character of the street rather than compete with it. Shopping centres, markets and office campuses need something different: installations that read from across a parking lot or a busy concourse. We design for both.
Interior murals for restaurants, clinics and shops, and exterior walls on commercial corridors such as 17th Avenue SE, designed to read from a car as well as on foot.
Pop-ups and seasonal installations for shopping centres, markets and retail plazas, built to handle heavy foot traffic and to come down without damage.
Freestanding and suspended pieces for recreation centres, office lobbies and courtyards, with fabrication drawings and installation coordination.
Artist-led interiors for restaurants, salons, med spas and offices, from concept renderings through buildout.
Set design and spatial planning for corporate events, launches and community celebrations in southeast venues and community halls.
Projects here can start with a restaurant owner on International Avenue, a marketing team at a shopping centre or market, an office or industrial landlord, or a community association in one of the newer suburbs. A mall activation has a different set of approvals from a restaurant wall, so we match the process to the property.
Exterior murals visible from public space in Calgary may need a development permit under the Land Use Bylaw, and anything on or over a public right of way needs its own approval. Shopping centres add tenant and landlord rules on top. We confirm all of it before we design.
The southeast is a short drive from our studio along Stoney Trail and Deerfoot Trail, so travel is not a meaningful cost. Budgets run from a single restaurant wall to a multi-week centre activation, and we give a range at the first conversation and a fixed proposal after the site visit.
Before we talk, our mural pricing guide and shopping centre activation ideas are useful reading. For the full range of our work, visit Services or read about the studio.
Restaurant, shopping centre and community work from across the Calgary area.
Yes. Our studio in NE Calgary is a short drive away, and we take on restaurant walls, shopping centre activations, installations and interiors anywhere in the quadrant.
Yes. We plan installation around opening hours and the landlord’s contractor rules, carry our own liability insurance, and schedule the work for before opening or after close so the centre can trade as normal.
Yes. We find out whether a development permit applies, prepare the drawings and submit on behalf of the property owner. Interior murals in Calgary typically do not require a permit.
