Site-specific artwork for the oldest main street in Calgary, its galleries, independent shops and the Inglewood Night Market.
Inglewood is the oldest commercial street in Calgary and one of its most independent. 9th Avenue SE holds galleries, record shops, restaurants, breweries and the Inglewood Night Market, with heritage brick and small-scale storefronts that give the neighbourhood its character. KINN Studios is an artist-led experiential design studio based in Calgary, and we design murals, installations, activations and interiors for the businesses and property owners here.
Inglewood rewards work that respects what is already there. Many buildings carry heritage value, and the Inglewood BIA and the community have a clear sense of what fits the street. We start every project by studying the building, its neighbours and the way people move along the avenue, then design something that belongs.
Our work in comparable Calgary neighbourhoods, including restaurant murals in Bridgeland and Kensington and a community mural in the northwest, gives a good sense of how we approach a main street like this one. The process is the same in each case: a site visit first, a concept drawn for the wall, and a fixed proposal before anything is built.

Inglewood briefs typically come from independent business owners, landlords with heritage buildings, or the Inglewood BIA planning streetscape work. Because many buildings are older, we spend extra time on surface condition and on what the heritage designation allows before proposing a design.
Exterior murals visible from public space in Calgary may require a development permit under the Land Use Bylaw, and heritage-designated buildings can have additional review. Interior murals typically do not need a permit. We research what applies to the specific building and prepare the application.
Budgets range from an interior feature wall to a full exterior mural with surface preparation. We give a range at the first conversation and a fixed proposal after the site visit.

Yes. KINN Studios is based in Calgary and Inglewood is a short drive from our studio. We can attend site visits, BIA meetings and installation in person.
Interior murals usually need four to eight weeks from approval to completion. Exterior murals on heritage buildings can need longer for review, so we recommend planning over the winter for painting between May and October.
Yes. We research whether a development permit or heritage review applies, prepare the drawings and submit on behalf of the property owner. Interior murals in Calgary typically do not require a permit.
