Site-specific murals, artist-led interiors and event design for the lake city on Calgary’s eastern edge, about twenty minutes from our studio.
Chestermere is built around Chestermere Lake on Calgary’s eastern edge, close enough to our NE Calgary studio that a site visit fits into an afternoon. KINN Studios is an artist-led experiential design studio, and in Chestermere we design murals, installations, activations and interiors for business owners, developers and families.
In 2023 we painted Keep Rolling for the Bud Mart store in Chestermere: a bold typographic mural on a swirl of yellow and orange gradients. It shows how we treat a compact retail room: one clear idea, sized to the wall, that customers remember after they leave.
When a brief involves new construction, the order of work matters. A feature wall, a custom finish or a lit sign is easiest to plan while the fit-out is still on paper, so we like to meet the owner and the contractor together, agree where the artwork sits, and schedule the painting after the dust and before the fixtures go in.
Our practice grows out of Punjabi-Canadian identity, and we bring the same care to weddings, milestone birthdays and cultural celebrations as to a shop interior. For a family event, that means a layout planned around how guests arrive, where they gather and where the photographs will be taken.
Feature walls for shops, restaurants, salons and clinics in the newer commercial plazas, and exterior murals where the property owner and the City’s land use rules allow. Keep Rolling is our retail example here.

Grand openings, seasonal pop-ups and launches for new businesses, delivered from our NE Calgary studio and taken down cleanly afterwards.
Freestanding and wall-mounted pieces for lobbies, community buildings, patios and courtyards, with fabrication drawings and installation coordination.
Three kinds of project suit us best here: a business opening or refreshing a location, a developer finishing a commercial building, and a family planning a large celebration. Each has a different decision-maker, so we agree at the start who approves the design and who signs off on site.
Exterior murals in Chestermere may need a development permit, depending on the site and on whether the work is treated as a sign under the City of Chestermere Land Use Bylaw. Interior murals typically do not. We check what applies to each wall and prepare the application with the property owner.
Because Chestermere is so close to our studio, site visits, mockups and installation days are easy to arrange, and travel adds almost nothing to the cost. We give a budget range at the first conversation and a fixed proposal after the site visit.

As early as you can. If we know about a feature wall or custom finish before the fit-out is complete, we can plan the lighting, surfaces and schedule with your contractor. Interior murals usually need four to eight weeks from approval to completion.
Yes. We research whether a development permit or sign approval applies under the City of Chestermere Land Use Bylaw, prepare the drawings and submit with the property owner. Interior murals typically do not require a permit.
