Art Installations, Murals and Interiors on 17th Avenue SW

Site-specific artwork and streetscape design for the retail and restaurant corridor of Calgary, including our painted artboard for UNA Pizza.

17th Avenue SW is the busiest retail and restaurant street in Calgary, and its storefronts, patios and side walls change constantly. KINN Studios is an artist-led experiential design studio based in Calgary, and 17th Avenue is one of the streets where we have built work. We design murals, art installations, activations and interiors for the restaurants, shops and property owners along the avenue.

In June 2026 we installed a commissioned artboard for UNA Pizza on 17th Avenue, part of the restaurant’s rotating artist program.

The artboard showed us how this street works: high foot traffic, tight installation windows, and a business community that values work designed for the avenue rather than dropped onto it.

Working with businesses, BIAs and developers in 17th Avenue SW

Projects on 17th Avenue can start with a restaurant or shop owner, a landlord with a side wall, or the 17th Ave BIA planning a streetscape piece. A streetscape brief usually sets a season, a footprint and a maintenance expectation, and we design within those from the first sketch.

Exterior murals visible from public space in Calgary may need a development permit under the Land Use Bylaw, and anything placed on the sidewalk or in a parking lane needs the relevant City approvals. Interior murals and artboards typically do not need a permit. We check what applies and prepare the application.

Budgets range from a single interior feature wall or artboard to a full parklet build. We give a clear range at the first conversation and a fixed proposal after the site visit.

If you would like a sense of the numbers before we talk, our mural pricing guide and interior design cost guide are a good starting point. To see the full range of what we do, visit Services or read about the studio.
