Site-specific artwork, activations and interiors for Edmonton, from a Calgary studio that travels north for public art and commercial projects.
Edmonton has one of the most established public art programs in Western Canada, run through the Edmonton Arts Council and its percent-for-art policy, alongside 13 Business Improvement Areas and large retail destinations like West Edmonton Mall and Southgate Centre. KINN Studios is an artist-led experiential design studio based in Calgary, about three hours south by road, and we take on murals, installations, activations and interiors in Edmonton.
In 2026 we were shortlisted for the Valley Line West LRT public art call through the Edmonton Arts Council and completed paid proposal work at the second stage. The process gave us a working knowledge of how Edmonton runs its public art competitions, what the review panels look for, and how to plan a project for the city’s climate and transit context.
For commercial work in Edmonton, we plan around the drive. Site visits, mockups and installation are grouped into trips, and we are clear at the proposal stage about travel costs so there are no surprises.

Edmonton briefs come from three main sources: public art calls issued by the Edmonton Arts Council or by developers meeting percent-for-art obligations, BIAs planning streetscape work in their districts, and business owners or property managers with a specific wall or space. Public art calls follow a fixed timeline with published criteria. Commercial projects are more flexible.
Permits for exterior murals in Edmonton are governed by the City of Edmonton Zoning Bylaw, and requirements vary by zone and by whether the work is considered a sign. Interior murals typically do not need a permit. We research what applies to the specific property and prepare the application with the owner.
For budgets, we add travel and accommodation to the standard scope and state them separately, so a client in Edmonton can compare our proposal fairly with a local one.
If you would like a sense of the numbers before we talk, our mural pricing guide and interior design cost guide are a good starting point. To see the full range of what we do, visit Services or read about the studio.
